PresCare clients celebrate Queensland Seniors Week in style

29 August 2018

Queensland Seniors Week 2018 was celebrated in style with our clients at Inala Place, Sherwood Place and Day Therapy Centre throughout the week with music, dancing, food and other fun activities.

Seniors Week is an annual event that focuses on coming together and celebrating the seniors in our local community and the valuable contributions they make.

The events we host at PresCare during Seniors Week is just one way in which we want to celebrate our seniors and all they do for us.

Grooving to Goggomobiles

On Wednesday, Inala and Sherwood Place clients, family, staff and volunteers came together to enjoy a concert performed by band ‘Goggomobiles’.  Many seniors could be found on the dance floor grooving to the beat of classic songs such as Hello Mary Lou, Stupid Cupid, Can’t Help Falling in Love and It’s Now or Never by the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley.

A pop-up marketplace stall was also up and running selling various items that included beautifully handmade knitted and crotched creations such as jumpers and booties. Thank you to volunteers Joyce, Joanne and Marj for creating the knitted and crotched items and to the clients who also contributed by suppling some of the items on sale.

Other activities enjoyed by clients include the crafts table, knitting station and games such as Rumikub, Scrabble and an outdoor mini golf game. And of course, no celebration would be without the consumption of delicious food! Everyone treated themselves to a BBQ for lunch and a delightful morning tea which included delicious homemade cakes, scones and muffins.

Sherwood clients hit the right note!

On Thursday, our Sherwood Place clients were treated to a concert by enthusiastic singer David Cheales who also danced with the clients as he strummed his guitar. David even serenaded a few clients with many songs from the past.

Clients, staff and volunteers clapped, tapped and danced to many well-known and loved classics such as You are my Sunshine, Summer Holiday, Singin’ in the Rain and Louis Armstrong’s When The Saints Go Marching In.

After the singing and dancing session, clients were treated to a delicious lunch – roast pork with mash potato, vegetables and brownies with ice-cream for dessert!

Getting fit and having fun

The incredible clients at our Day Therapy Centre’s ‘Strength and Balance’ exercise group celebrated Seniors Week by treating themselves to a delicious morning tea after finishing off their session. This was well deserved as they have all worked hard to maintain and improve their strength and balance.

“Most of these clients have been attending these groups together for over 10 years now. It’s a great way for them to not only work on their fitness and overall wellbeing, but they get to socialise as well!” said Michelle Ennis, an Allied Health Assistant at the Day Therapy Centre.
