Milestone Birthday Celebrations!

One of Protea’s first Residents, Margaret Beasley, has celebrated her 100th birthday this year.

Margaret was born in 1919 and grew up in Sherbourne, where she lived for majority of her life and also where she met her late husband Norman. Once married, Margaret and Norman moved to Townsville, North Queensland, where they eventually started their family and lived their quiet life.

Margaret has experienced and seen a lot in her 100 years. She was living during the depression, the first walk on the moon, The Queen visiting Townsville in the 50s and 70s, the assassination of John F Kennedy and when Cyclone Althea ripped through Townsville.

Her happy memories of her life are living in Guru on her family’s farm and remembering her father that she was very close with.

Margaret celebrated this big milestone surrounded by family, her 2 children Wade and Renee and also her 5 grandchildren Kyera, Lincoln, Maddison, Jarrod and Sarah. The deputy Mayor of Townsville, Les Walker, popped in to celebrate this huge achievement.
