Blog post by Mike Bosel – Where to get help after extreme weather events

27 February 2015

We’ve had a number of extreme weather events in Queensland over the past few years, but it looks like Cyclone Marcia will have had the most impact in terms of long term effects. We hope that you and your family have come through the storm with a minimum of disruption and damage.

Service companies continue to make progress after Cyclone Marcia with the power being reconnected to 63,000 homes and businesses in the impacted area; leaving fewer than 12,000 still awaiting power. Reports indicate that the remaining areas are expected to have power by Tuesday 3 March.

Please remember that if you have sustained any damage to your property, specifically water damage in your ceiling, call a licensed electrician to inspect the wiring. Same goes for electrical appliances that may have come to be wet and damaged; get them checked before using them.

On another note, should you require assistance as a result of the cyclone, PresCare may be able to assist. Whether you need additional Home and Community Care (HACC) services following the storm, or you’d like to consider in-home services that you have not previously required, we can help. From garden maintenance and domestic services, such as vacuuming and mopping, to general assisting with cleaning any areas of the house that may have been damaged by the storm.

We understand many residents in the Rockhampton region may find it beneficial to talk through the trauma experienced during this extreme weather event. PresCare Community Care organises a fortnightly friendship group which comes together for morning teas and luncheons as well as bus trips and is a great way for you to stay connected to your community and get out and about! There is also a Men’s Shed coordinated by our chaplain Chris Pengelly which is held at the local PCYC.

If you are interested in chatting to us about what services we can offer you, please call us on 07 4921 7600. We look forward to talking to you soon.
